It is all about chances as the following paragraph shows. It seems a girls high school basketball game in Idalou, Texas, marred by a game celebration Tuesday night, that has the host district making apologies. Following the victory over the Slaton Tigers, some Idalou fans chanted USA, USA, USA. Seems innocent enough doesn’t it – but it had racial overtones. Slaton’s ISD enrollment is 74 percent Hispanic and 7 percent African-American students. The Idalou Superintendent met with educators and administrators, who then spoke to students about the incident. He also sent an email letter of apology to Slaton, who said she will share it with the students.
The chant USA should be for all of us and it has to work both ways! If you are a citizen in the U.S. or not, respect is the name of the game until the newcomers learn the system and what is expected of each citizen of this country, like it or not.
