KOMMONSENTSJANE – SO YOUNG AND SO MUCH HATE, WHY

Conservative Students Beware! Michigan Professor Admits to Hating Republicans.  Just how does one become so bold in their opinion – is this because of lack of attention?  Or is it to divide the students and she will have someone on her side in the debate?  When she made this statement, it immediately took her out of the leadership role she is paid to perform!

The part that really set me off was this statement below, “championing fetal ‘personhood.'” Now this is a person who knows and feels what the word “hate” really means.  Doesn’t she realize she came into this world as one of those “fetal personhoods?”  As far as the other legions of blowhards she is talking about – climate change, and thwarting immigration reform.  I noticed she did not give or state any facts for climate change (is she a Scientist in the Wings?)  Or immigration reform?

How does such a beautiful God’s work of art have so much venom running through her veins?  Someone please slip her one of those “love” pills. Her eyes look so sad and the smile seems artificial.  Oh! and the other thing – what is this message by her picture – the seductive message that “Feminism’s work is done – Enlightened sexism.”  Has she given up on love and is  now teaching it?   What does that have to do with her Professorship or  “Republicans?”

Douglas1

Susan J Douglas is a professor of communications at the University of Michigan. And she wants you to know that she hates Republicans. She confessed this in an article written for In These Times.

“I hate Republicans. I can’t stand the thought of having to spend the next two years watching Mitch McConnell, John Boehner, Ted Cruz, Darrell Issa or any of the legions of other blowhards denying climate change, thwarting immigration reform or championing fetal “personhood.””  Douglas has faced criticism for her comments. The Chairman of the Michigan Republican Party has called for her resignation.

“The University of Michigan is a respected public institution, funded by taxpayers, and this type of bullying must be addressed by President Mark Schlissel. I am calling on Lon Johnson, Gary Peters, Gretchen Whitmer, Tim Greimel and all Democratic officials to join in condemning this disgraceful dialogue by calling for Professor Susan J. Douglas’ resignation. By endorsing the hatred of an opposing political party, Douglas has made Republican students feel vulnerable and intimidated,” he said. “Our children come first, not the opinions of outspoken, out-of-line professors.”  (Is her statement to keep Republican students out of her class?)

Conservative students sometimes are concerned about the bias they are faced in college classrooms. Douglas has directly and honestly publicized that she feelsl “hate” for those with whom she disagrees. The Detroit News reported that Grant Strobl, the Chairman of the University of Michigan’s chapter of Young Americans for Freedom is concerned about Douglas’ comments. (Feels hate?)

“This is blatant intolerance, and the University should take action on the behalf of intellectual diversity and all of the students who are intimidated into silence. In the position of an instructor, she can intimidate and inhibit the student’s freedom of expression.”

The University released a statement reinforcing that Susan Douglas’ words were her own and she was free to express them. But, students with opposing viewpoints also have the right to express themselves.  (That is true, but let’s put the shoe on the other foot – what if a Conservative Professor communicated this same piece of information – wonder what kind of effect it would have on the university media?  It is easy for the college to say this in her behalf – now, let’s have a show of hands on how many at Michigan are Conservative Professors?  Just what I thought – zero!).

How would you feel sitting in a classroom with a professor who wrote that she hates people who hold your viewpoints? (Would the grading be on a level footing?)

Outside comment – I agree. She’s free to hate anyone she wants to. However, I would take issue if her views were presented as a part of her curriculum, or if students that disagree with her received lower grades than those that didn’t. She can’t teach her opinions as fact and expect to give grades based on this.

Outside comment – As a communications professor, she should have kept her mouth shut. She should have known better. I would be more concerned about taking a communication class from someone with such loose lips. Communication professors should know how to craft public statements so as to not offend or alienate anyone.
