Tobacco has a long history in the Americas. The Mayan Indians of Mexico carved drawings in stone showing tobacco use. These drawings date back to somewhere between 600 to 900 A.D. Tobacco was grown by American Indians before the Europeans came from England. Native Americans smoked tobacco through a pipe for special religious and medical purposes. They did not smoke every day. Tobacco was the first crop grown for money in North America in 1612 by the settlers of the first American colony in Jamestown, Virginia, as a cash crop – in addition to corn, cotton, wheat, sugar, and soy beans. Tobacco helped pay for the American Revolution against England.
In 1964, the Surgeon General of the U.S. (the chief doctor for the country) wrote about the dangers of cigarette smoking. He said that the nicotine and tar in cigarettes caused lung cancer. In 1965, the Congress passed the Cigarette Labeling and Advertising Act. It said that every pack must have a warning label on its side stating, “Cigarettes may be hazardous to your health.” Due to this health issue and many deaths from cigarettes, people have reduced or eliminated their use. Federal and public buildings outlaw any smoking in these establishments. Most people who smoke, smoke for the enjoyment that it brings, so they say.
People make a big stink if anyone is smoking a cigarette in their presence. But, now enter marijuana. Its presence is popping up as legal in California, Colorado, and a few other states – anyone over 18 years of age. It is now being used in food with children innocently ingesting the food. We are now seeing more cases of over dose of children in the emergency rooms. Why are cigarettes banned, but it is okay to smoke marijuana. Doesn’t the smoke permeate your lungs by using marijuana?
The marijuana, cannabis, or hemp plant is one of the oldest psychoactive plants known to humanity. Cannabis has become one of the most widespread and diversified of plants. Cannabis preparations have been used as remedies for thousands of years and the active ingredients of the hemp plant can be put to use in a multitude of medical conditions.
Marijuana has been used throughout history in many different cultures to change mood, perception, and consciousness – in other words to get high. Its effects according to recent reports, one marijuana cigarette can affect your heart and alter your brain, permanently. After the Mexican Revolution in 1910, the Mexicans flooded into the U.S., introducing to American culture the recreational use of marijuana.
So if regular cigarettes are bad for you, why are we allowing marijuana cigarettes to be smoked in public. Smoke is a smoke, whether it is cigarettes, cigars, or marijuana cigarettes. Doesn’t marijuana affect your lungs like cigarettes? Canada was the first country in the world to offer medical marijuana to its patients. It is sad in my eyes, that these politicians are allowing these states to break the Federal law regarding marijuana just to ring that cash register. It is like everything in our country which is being deliberately reduced to ashes because of the caliber and mentality of people we have as our leader, his administration, and our government. They do not have any ethics or morals because that is the culture in which they were raised.
