It was football watching day yesterday – mostly because of the 16 degree weather. In watching the players, it seemed that in most of the games there were incidences of the players trying to “pick a fight” or trying to hurt a player – thereby committing a rule violation which always costs their team a penalty and definitely reflects on the coach and his teachings. I wonder what the coach actually asks or tells that player because in some instances it causes the loss of the game. Do the players ever think about etiquette which is to reduce the incidences of insults? Sarcasm seldom works in the face of total stupidity. Since sports is supposed to be about sportsmanship, it tells me the coach has not engrained that facet into a player’s mind. If I were the coach and one of my players, early on, committed one of these infractions, I would yank him out of the game immediately to teach him a lesson and if he did it a second time I would “bench” him. It seems the coaches are not doing their job because these players, “who think they are stars,” are going to hurt someone badly. Most of these players are not learning anything educationally – they are there just waiting for the NFL – they could at least be taught one of life’s lessons called “etiquette” – so they could leave with something. I have never seen an invincible player!
