The New York Times was founded on September 18, 1851. The inaugural edition attempted to address various speculations on its purpose and positions that preceded its release.
“We shall be Conservative in all cases where we think Conservatism is essential to the public good; and, we shall be Radical in everything which may seem to us to require radical treatment and radical reform. We do not believe that everything in society is either exactly right or exactly wrong – what is good we desire to preserve and improve – what is evil, to exterminate or reform.”
Pretty strong stuff – it seems to have gotten on the tract of the radical train. In 2009 article circulation dropped to 7.3 percent to about 928,000 readers. Their articles are very seldom positive. As an example, the recent article on the nuclear family – who and how do they know the nuclear family is not the norm any more? What is wrong with having a mother, father, and two children? Every child should have a family! Our degradation in this area has reduced the structural difference of what is right and what is wrong. Yes, there are different types of families today – two mothers, two fathers, one mother – no father, and one father and no mother. This certainly affects the children in more ways than one. The most important teaching is morality and discipline.
My suggestion to the New York Times to increase your bottom line is to give both sides of the story and not just one.
