THE THORNY SIDE OF LIFE.

Life on the ranch is sometimes “thorny.”  We have had a lot of rain, recently.  So, that means my husband has to check all of the fences to be sure none of them are down because of the ravines and the ravishing water flow.  If there is a break that means the Spanish goats will break out.  It seems there was an area that had a large limb that had fallen on the fence.  He proceeded to try to disengage the limb from the fence.  You might know sometimes these limbs have a mind of their own!  That little old limb sprung free and threw him to the ground and besides giving him a pretty good scrape – he fell in a patch of cactus.  And, you know what that means.  It happened to be on the side of his left leg at his knee level.  Now we have been using tweezers trying to find all of those needles.  (I know you have heard that story about trying to find a needle in a haystack – this was just as bad.)  As the story goes, my husband visited with his tailor,  who is a lovely, older Spanish man,  yesterday, to pick up some repaired slacks and was relating his tale of woes.  The tailor gave him the old Spanish secret to removing cactus needles from your hide.  Just use a pair of panty hose and brush over the area and “voila” – all of the cactus needles are gone.   Therefore, if you go ranching, be sure and pack  a pair of panty hose – just in case you fall in a patch of cactus.
