A TEXAS HOEDOWN!

What a lovely party for celebrating 55 years of marriage!   Our friends and neighbors, Ruth and Ken,  threw a party of all parties a couple of  weekends ago to celebrate their  anniversary.  It was a true Texas hoedown!  The host and hostess had arranged for 14 travel trailers for all of their relatives and guests to be brought on the property and set up with electricity and water, plus sheets and pillows.  A 50 X 50 white tent was erected with red/white checked table cloths, tables and chairs.  In one end was a dance floor and an area for the musicians. A skeet shooting range and horse shoe grounds were built.  The guests, mostly from Canada and northern and southern states,  who did not stay on premises stayed in area motels.  In all there were about 100 people attending the party.  The party started on Wednesday evening with dinner at the Longhorn Cafe which was enjoyed by all.  On Thursday, one of their couple guests arrived and would be staying in our home.  This couple was from Michigan.  The husband was a retired professor and his wife was an occupational therapist.  She reminded me of Julia Childs and had such an outgoing personality.  He, in turn, was mostly quiet in the beginning but blossomed with time.  They both loved to read which certainly meshed in with our home and Julia loved swimming and exercising in our pool.  A continental breakfast was served each day, box lunch for noon, and a Chef prepared meal at night with different musicians each night.  The wine and beer flowed and the heels were kicked up each evening.  The conversations were flowing with people meeting each other for the first time and kin folks marveling in the growth of the children.   My phone was quite busy with the neighbors calling to see “just what was going on over there.” All in all, a lot of fun was had by all;  and,  we wish these two special people – many more years of wedded bliss.
