Have you ever heard that saying, “blood is thicker than water?” Yes, that saying has been around a long time. One event that happened a number of years ago was that I had asked my husband’s Grandmother if she would leave me a picture she owned which was the , “Lord’s Supper.” Her reply was, “Oh no! You are not blood kin.” In my mind, my reply was, blood kin, I thought, how much more blood kin can you be if you are married to her grandson and produced a great-grandson? To be respectful to her, I never answered her. After her demise, the Lord’s Supper picture was given to us by my husband’s mother. That picture is special and is hanging in my breakfast room at this moment. Each day as I pass, I thank the Lord for the picture, smile, and thank Grandmother for giving it to her daughter, who in turn gave it to her son, and who is blood kin and my husband. I pray that Grandmother is happy in Heaven because Grandmother was only about four-foot tall and a stick of dynamite. She ruled the roost in her household. But, remember, in the old days, a woman had to be tough just to survive.
