Patriotism means love of country. The term comes from the Greek word patriot meaning fatherland. Patriotism includes admiration and even love for the country and for the customs and traditions of the country. It also means attachment to the land and the people, as well as devotion to the welfare of the community. A citizen is shaped by the beliefs, customs, and institutions of his native land. If reared in another country, he would develop into a much different person. Most men and women identify themselves with the country of their birth. At the same time, immigrants from other lands frequently learn to feel patriotism or appreciation for their adopted country far beyond that of the average citizen who has always lived in that country. This love of one’s adopted country is especially true of persons who have fled from the restrictions and controls of a dictatorship to a free or democratic country.
It made me sick when I saw on TV, today, on the streets of New York all of these young people heckling David Petraeus. Were these young people real Americans or canned Americans? It is men, like Petraeus, who fight for this country to enable these hecklers to be free to heckle. He is a man who has given his life trying to keep this country free and was double-crossed by his superior and resigned from the military. Sure all of us make mistakes during our lifetime – but his problem was trusting people. I would still support this man in any political position and I hope he considers it in the future. Whoever these young people were, I hope their parents recognize them and recall them due to a serious defect in the primary and central component of their hearts. This defect has been identified as “Sub-sequential Internal Non-morality,” more commonly know as S.I.N. Some of the symptoms I saw on TV were: loss of direction, foul vocal emissions, selfish or violent behavior, and rebellion. I hope when they are ten years older and have children they can review the TV film and feel proud of themselves. Will all of the parents of these young people, come forward? I know their parents would be happy to claim them.
