It seems when people are starting out and building their fortunes that capitalism is great until they become rich; and, once that happens, they seem to forget what got them to that place and then try to dismantle the very system that made them wealthy. That is why I was so disappointed in Oprah’s statement about being discriminated against. Was she looking for scapegoats? Being, a white person and not of color, all of us have been discriminated against during our lifetime and I bet that was not the first time that Oprah had been discriminated against – why pick that one occasion to make such an issue? Oh, how many times, I can count the ways; but, so what, it happened because of ignorance. Some people like to be victims to make themselves a part of the crowd. Others move on, brush themselves off to help those less fortunate. I could not understand why Oprah had to go overseas to help her people. There are a lot of areas in this country that could have used that school she had built. Now she has apologized and we accept that; but, I hope she has learned something from this encounter because people respected her and her programs on reading, etc. But, I must say, “people judge you by the company you keep and who lead you astray.” My mom always stated, “don’t follow the crowd, be your own person.” We must work on the bottom 80% of the people not the top 20%. If the top 20% are not motivated, they shouldn’t be there.
