The world as each person knows it is not the same for all cultures. When our leader was speaking Friday evening, I understood everything he said; but, we must step up in the ladder of life and quit going backwards. The problems in the black community about blacks killing blacks is going to have to be addressed by the community and its leaders and quit blaming others. Our leader did not mention all of the rap and entertainment media which has a direct impact on all of our children and directly drives them down the wrong road of success. The educational system is failing our children – when a person graduates from college and cannot read or write – something is terribly wrong with our system – how could he have achieved this unless it was through social promotion. The last time I checked, a lot of the black people have risen in stature during my lifetime and have pulled themselves up by the boot straps just like other cultures. Look at all of the actors, actresses, media, teachers, doctors, nurses, NBA and NFL, and on and on who are successful. As I have stressed from time to time, these “rich” folks need to go back to their communities and give back to their community and help the people they left behind. Instead of all of the threats to the states such as, “I will not perform in that state until such happens” does not help anyone. The answer is “what can we as entertainers do to help our brothers.” Spend some time in your old community and ask the leaders what you can do to make things better for your people. Your not having a tour through a state only hurts your pocket-book not the people of the state. There are others who will tour. Threats don’t help.
