Food is one of our most important daily needs.  It furnishes our energy to work and to play.  Plants, animals, and man need food to grow and live.  Plants make their own food.  All of the food that we eat is derived from animals and plants.   As we  know, throughout the whole world people  do not eat the same foods.    In the Orient they eat mostly rice.  Eskimos eat and survive  on meat and fish.    Central Asia live on milk and milk products.  And, there are parts of the world that eat food that we would not even think about eating.  For example,  in Iran they enjoy sheep’s eyes;  in the Far East a dish of flour and dried grasshoppers.  Others eat broiled octopus, duck tongues, fish bladders, fried butterfly cocoons, python soup,  bird’s nest soup,  rooster combs,  and shark fins.  It seems that customs and religion influence what people eat.  Sure am glad that someone invented hamburgers – just think, you have lettuce, tomato, onions, mustard, mayonnaise, pickles,  beef,  and a bun (bread).  A hamburger has everything that is required all rolled up in one little bun which they call nutritional.  So what is the beef?   It is not what you eat  – but the amount!  The secret to not over-eating is to drink an eight-ounce glass  of  water with a squeeze of lemon in it before you start eating and you won’t eat as much.
