It seems the Millennials are getting a bum rap. The criticism seems to be wrapped up in their “quirky” behavior. It seems about 20 percent of recent grads are considered “quirky.” It seems they are so wrapped up in their gadgets, they have become socially inept and struggle academically. A lot of the interviewers stated that most of the interviewed applicants wanted to start as a vice-president or manager in their first job. Most of them lack many skills – example, do not bring your mother or father to the interview (this can’t be true) or answer a text or answer your phone during an interview. Knowing how to dress, write, speak, and behave properly – with respect – is the most important traits in my eyes. Having common sense is another trait which is lacking. I do not blame this lack of traits on these young people. I blame it on our educational system and parents. These young people were programmed for failure from the get-go by the educational system in order to bring all people to an equal level – the duh level! My main hang-up is giving a child a computer. The starting point should be teaching them how to read, write, and math. Once that level has been reached then bring in the computer. If they cannot solve a problem without a computer – then we are in a heap of trouble. In the end, I think they are equal to other generations in that some are strong, some are weak, and others just seem to be strange because a lot of people think if you do not think like they do – then – they think your strange. Wouldn’t it be boring if we were all the same?
