Since 1950, teachers salaries have tripled. The ratio of teachers is 252, plus 702% increase in non-teachers, to 96 students. Also, the union doesn’t help, it just gets in the way. The blob gets bigger and bigger. And still our students graduate without reading or math skills. What do the teachers have to say about this – “don’t tell me I am not doing a good job and don’t hold me accountable?” Really, then who should be held accountable? I know there are a lot of good teachers out there, especially in years past; but there hands are tied because they are not able to discipline in order keep order in the class room. Therefore, there is bedlam. So how do you learn – you can’t! Also, the parents need to support the teacher in the class room instead of siding with the student. Also, meet with the teacher at the beginning of the school year and have a plan as to what type of discipline will be tolerated in the class room and review the guidelines booklet with the student. That will only give the teacher some leverage. Our family had a ton of teachers – “it ain’t no piece of cake.” I think vouchers are the way to go.
