The Vogue magazine has an outstanding article on Mikhail Gorbachev in the latest issue.  This man was a reformer during his time in office; but, his fellow officials thought he must be from another planet.  Prior to his time in office everything in Russia seemed austere to the outside world.  He seemed to put Russia on the map just with his openness and warm personality.  He wanted to open the drapes and shades to let the sunshine into his country.    Germany certainly has to be indebted to him for being a part of  dismantling  the Berlin wall and Germany becoming one country.  The difference between Gorbachev’s  and Putin’s strategy in leading Russia, in my eyes, is like daylight and dark.  Gorbachev believed in a democratic society.  History will give him proper credit for his accomplishments even though to this day there are some who want to discredit him.  He also was honored with the Nobel Peace Prize.  We thank God for gracing us with his presence.
