The history of Cuba is interesting in that Columbus discovered Cuba in 1492 and claimed it for Spain. He named the country “Juana” in honor of the son of Ferdinand and Isabella of Spain. Spain gave up all rights to Cuba in 1898. The United States established a military government under which progress was made in education, public works, and health. The Cubans adopted a constitution in 1901 which included the Platt Amendment. The amendment gave the United States the right to intervene in Cuban internal affairs. It also gave the U.S. a naval base at Guantanamo which is still in existence. The first president was elected in 1902 and the U.S. left the country. The country had its ups and down (back and forth between a liberal/socialistic and democratic government) until 1960 when Castro (communism/socialism) seized almost all American-owned property. All activities were brought under the state control and secret police was formed to control the people. More than 100,000 Cubans left and moved to Florida. In Miami, relief centers were set up to provide clothes, food and work for the refugees. It is and has been a communist/socialistic regime since that time. It is unlawful for an American citizen to travel to Cuba without “special permission” from the U.S. government. We do have a lot of people in the U.S. who are sympathizers of the Cuban regime and do visit Cuba – especially the media, Hollywood stars, and musical stars. I do not understand why these people don’t move there since they love the communistic/socialistic rule of law. Instead, they are trying to breed this communist/socialistic rule in America. Just think, all of them could move there very easily and stop doing all this “movin and shakin” in this country. It’s already set up for them and Fidel/Raul would love to have them as propaganda tools. Are they leaving on a fast boat? I hope so! Socialists always make a mess of the financial situation and end up running out of other people’s money like they have done in California and a lot of other democrat states run by democratic governors.
