Something I have tried recently which really helped me when driving in the rain, day or night, is that most times I would turn on the windshield wipers on high or the fastest speed – yet the visibility in front of the windshield was still bad – I would put on my sun glasses. All of a sudden, your visibility will be perfectly clear, as if there was no rain. You will see the drops on the windshield, but not the sheet of rain falling. You can also see where the rain bounces off the road. It also works to eliminate the blindness from passing large trucks spraying you or the kick up if you are following a large truck or car in the rain.
The other thing I learned was never drive in the rain or snow with your cruise control on. The reason is that if the cruise control is on when your car begins to hydro-plane and your tires lose contact with the pavement, your car will accelerate to a higher rate of speed making you take off like an airplane. Some vehicles will not allow you to set the cruise control when the windshield wipers are on. Safe driving.
