As the old timers use to say  – oil and water do not mix!  The same thing applies with our government and academia – they just do not work together.  This is what is presently happening in our government.  We have elected people who are all academia smarts (book learning); but, they have no common sense.  They have never run a business in their whole lives and are like fish out of water – they are just floundering in Washington, D.C.  They keep using the same math thinking they are going to come out with a different result – like our debt – they do not understand if you stop spending it will bring the debt down.  They do not understand that our government is  a business not a college and has to be run as a business with checks and balances.  In academia,  it is run like petty cash – you have “x”  number of dollars and you can spend it where ever  you want to with no justification.  When you run out – you just keep asking for more  – like our leader.
