We continue to be bombarded with “not enough money is going into education.” How much money is enough! The first priority should be that each state needs to be held accountable for education. The federal government needs to exit the system. The next item on the agenda should be quit building these resorts for schools which in the long run cannot be financially sustained. Whatever happened to the one-room school building thinking? The next part of the recipe should be teachers – get the union out of the picture. The administration is not running the schools – the union is, and that is our biggest problem. The children are not in the equation. Then I would mix a little bitte old test for teachers to be sure they are qualified for the job – any company you go to work for you have to take a test – so why not teachers? Don’t forget the precious cargo that is on board. I would then mix a little spice like an ingredient for a “Working Rules Booklet” for teachers on what the district expects from them. And, each year have a district teachers’ meeting to review and sign an “ethics and morals” contract for the upcoming year. Then have each teacher set up a meeting with each parent of the student in her class to discuss discipline and how they will work together to make the teaching experience successful for student and teacher. Have another booklet for the children to explain what is expected of them and their parents. Now, it is up to the teacher to put all of this together and bake it. If the mixture fails while baking, it is up to the teacher to request help from the administration to find out what caused the failure.
