Every one who has raised a child has experienced when you feel it is time to talk about the sex word. In discussing this subject with a younger friend she asked the question of how much did I know as a young person about the subject. I explained to her that I had two older sisters, plus my mom, and was able to see and hear a lot and the rest came from health classes. We discussed the fact there are a number of resources available today for young people by Family Life Today called, “Passport to Purity.” It includes several fun and interactive opportunities to demonstrate the physical, emotional, and spiritual consequences from engaging in sex outside of marriage. I don’t think it is not enough to tell young people “not to engage in sex.” It is important to explain why and what they are risking. The other resource which I think would be valuable is Pam Stenzel, “Love, Sex, and Relationships.” Pam feels that young people are very capable of making good decisions if given the facts. It would have saved my mom a lot of time with four daughters if all of these tools would have been available when we were growing up.
