The olympic games were first recorded in 776 B.C. even though historians feel like they started hundreds of years earlier in the town of Olympia, Greece. The symbol of the Olympic Games appears on the Olympic flag. The interlocked rings are blue, yellow, black, green, and red. They represent the continents of Europe/Asia, Africa, North America, South America, and Australia linked in friendship. The official motto is Citius, Altius, Fortius which means swifter, higher, stronger. In ancient times, religion, politics, athletics centered at Olympia and made this town famous in Greek history. It is still from here that the sacred torch is carried to whatever corner of the world the modern Olympiads are held in. In visiting the original stadium in Greece the part of the stadium that I thought was most interesting was “Cheater’s Row.” If a participant was caught cheating in the games – he was disqualified and disgraced. His name and all of his families’ names were listed on the head stone and placed on cheaters row as punishment. Wouldn’t it be nice, if the U.S. had a cheaters row memorial in some town. I think that would curb a lot of the cheating. For example, we would have to put Lance Armstrong in that row of memorials and then we would have to list all of his family.
