How do you go about keeping the government in business and reducing the debt of the government at the same time.  Why not try what car manufacturers do?  If they do not have any orders  for cars,  they shut down that part of the company which reduces their expenses – the employees go on furlough without pay for a period of weeks or months.  We have a lot of bloated departments such as the EPA, educational, health, transportation, judicial,  the president’s staff, etc. that we could have roving shutdowns until we bring down the debt.  In this way, the crucial area for people, such as, social security and medicare would continue operating.  In these two areas you could reduce the employee count by furloughing within the departments and accomplishing the same thing. 

Another way is – we could set up so many months a year that the congress and senate are in session rather than stay in Washington all of the time.  This way they could hold regular jobs outside of the government.   A lot of state governments operate in this manner.  We also would not need all of these lobbyists hanging around Washington.  Anything would be better than what we have!
