PRESS “1” FOR ENGLISH

It always amazes me when I dial a business number to either get or give information I get a recording that replies:  Press 1 for English or Press 2 for Spanish (what about all of the other foreigners in this country – do they not count  – my suggestion is that on Press 2 it needs to list all of the languages and then Press 3 for whatever language you need).  Then after I Press 1 the next reply is:  If you are calling to report an outage Press 1,  if you are calling to pay your bill Press 2, or to hang up Press 3.  Now why would I want to hang up if I have just called.  Or, if I wanted to hang up I would just put the receiver on the hook.  If I ran a business today, I would have a “live” person answering the phone.  The businesses have become lazy and do not want to accommodate people  – they just want your money, honey.  Because when they answer the phone – they have to go to work and they do not want to work.  The businesses want as little interface with  their customers as possible.   When we go to foreign countries – they do not say Press 1 for their language or Press 2 for English.  In Mexico,  they do not say press anything – they only say “Hola.”
