DO YOU HAVE A FAMILY TRADITION?

America was built on traditions and still a lot of people from all over the world celebrate  traditions in which their culture is built.  And, that is a good thing about our country.  There are different traditions such as cultural and then there are religious traditions.  Some of the traditions observed in America are:  the one that I thought was special since I have an Texas A&M Aggie brother is – they have a tradition that requires them to stand and yell during the entire football game.  It is called the “12th man,” it started in 1922 when A&M suffered so many injuries in the first half of the game that a student was called out of the stands to suit up and be ready to play.  The student said, “I simply stood by in case my team needed me.”  Another one  in our town involves the Senior band members’ shoes.  On the night of the last football game the seventh grade band members come forward.  Each Senior band member take off their shoes and hands them down to an  underclassman.  It symbolizes that they must fill our shoes.  This happens at the last football game and then all of the Seniors walk back to the band hall or bus, if out-of-town, barefoot.  Some families during the holiday play board games during the holidays, such as Monopoly which can last for days.  In our family we have a traditional family reunion once a year and we take turns being hosts and co-host.  It is a lot of fun. the food is very good,  and it gives everyone a chance to visit.  This occasion brings the family together since we do not live close to each other.  And, as all of you know,  everyone is so busy with work, volunteer work. and church work.  Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
