DON’T TREAD ON ME!

It is amazing how some people drive when they get behind the wheel of a car.  It is a tool that some people do  not seem to respect or respect the rights of others when driving.  There was a terrible wreck on I-10 near Beaumont, Texas, with a 100-car pile-up.  The conditions were just right with smoke fog and Thanksgiving day traffic.  How do you drive – do you observe the three-second rule and never tail gate?  Never tail-gate because it is one of the most dangerous things you can do when you are behind the wheel.  To be safe,  always observe the three-second rule to give yourself time to react if the driver ahead of you blows a tire, slams on the brakes, or just generally does something unexpected.  Need a refresher on the three-second rule?  Identify a landmark coming up on the road –  then begin counting as the driver in front of you passes it.  If you pass that same landmark in fewer than three seconds, you are too close.  Reduce your speed or pass the driver in front of you.  At night, or  in poor weather,  or bad road conditions, increase the three seconds to perhaps 8 or 10 seconds.  If you get someone on your tail – move to the slow lane on the freeway, or if necessary, engage your blinkers to let the other driver know he is too close.
