In 1932, because of the financial condition, the school trustees feared the school term might have to be shortened. All high school lessons were to be increased by 20 percent to cover the work. All teachers, except two, agreed to a ten percent salary reduction. One of the mothers in the community loaned the school $2,000 to finish the year. People were unable to pay their taxes due to the depression. It was voted to close the cafeteria and require that all teachers live in the district. The Superintendent from Houston delivered the commencement address to four graduates.
