I recommend everyone see this documentary.   In fact, I beg you to take time out to see the movie.  It scared the begeebers out of me.

We have got to take the root of the population and start working by cutting the exploitive rich lobbyists at the top of the tree and then cutting(voting) the Washington DC branches and foliage from the stems.  Then we have to re-instill our identity and patriotism.
