It is astounding to watch these hoofed animals. I am referring to white tail deer. I am getting very antsy because it is getting close to the season in Texas to hunt these creatures. They are so graceful and swift and their ability to jump is astounding. The females are referred to as does, the males are referred to as bucks, and the babies are referred to as fawns.
They belong to the group of animals which have even-numbered toes. When they run. they run on two toes. The young fawns are covered with white spots, which disappear when the new fall coat of hair is grown. The deer browse on buds and twigs of wild shrubs and trees. Deer cannot see stationary objects but quickly spot motion Smell is their keenest sense.
The photo shows the fawns in my back yard.
